Nurseline

Whether it’s a runny nose or possible poisoning – VSHP members can speak to a Registered Nurse (RN) anytime - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - with 24/7 Nurseline 1-800-262-2873.

Dental Care For Children

If you are a child under the age of 21, you also have a dental plan for your teeth. This dental plan iscalled a Dental Benefits Manager, or DBM. TennCare's dental plan for children is TennDent. Their phone number is 1-888-233-5935. If you have questions about caring for your child’s teeth, you can call them. It’s a free call.

  • You do NOT need to see your PCP before you go to a dentist. But, you will need to go to a TennDent dentist.
  • You can call TennDent to find a dentist.
  • This dental care is only for children. TennCare does not pay for dental care for adults.

Behavioral Health

VSHP offers many different programs that can help you cope with pain or distress that you may have in your life. You can call VSHP and talk to a counselor 24hours a day. You can get a referral if you think you need to see a mental health professional. You can also get a referral if you want to talk to someone about your substance use. VSHP has special programs for:

  • Depression 
  • Bipolar Disorder 
  • Schizophrenia 
  • Anxiety 
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) 

We can help you to learn about  and live with your illness. VSHP has a member advisory committee that meets  to help us understand what other things you need. Our staff works with you to manage your illness. We also help you work toward recovery. Our outreach teams offer education services

Prescription Medicine Coverage

If you have prescription drug coverage through TennCare, a health plan called SXC Health Solutions takes care of your prescription medicines. SXC is also called a PBM, or Pharmacy Benefits Manager. SXC will send you a card. You should show your SXC card to your drugstore when you get your medicine.

If you have questions about your SXC card, you can call the Family Assistance Service Center at 1-866-311-4287. It's a free call. But, if you have questions about your prescription medicines, you should call your doctor first.

Medical equipment called Assistive Technology (AT) can help people with disabilities improve their quality of life. It can help people with disabilities have more independence.

CareSmart is the name of VSHP’s disease management program.  CareSmart gives help to members who are chronically ill.

CaringStart

CaringStart works with members who are pregnant.  Pregnant women are told about prenatal care that they need.  All pregnant members receive a phone call.  You can decide if you want to be part of the CaringStart program.

Programs for Members with Special Needs

People who have certain disabilities need help getting the care they need. VSHP’s SelectCommunity program helps people with intellectual disabilities. TennCare members who get waiver services from the Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (DIDD) may be eligible for SelectCommunity.
