TENNderCARE / EPSDT
– health care for your child and teen
Check In, Check Up, and Check Back!
TENNderCare is the name for TennCare’s program to keep children healthy. It used to be called EPSDT (Early Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment).
Every child and teen needs regular health checkups, even if they seem healthy. These visits help your doctor find and treat problems early.
What happens at a well-child checkup?
- A complete health and development history
- A comprehensive physical exam
- Needed immunizations (shots)
- Needed lab tests
- Health education
- Vision and hearing testing
- Dental screening
In TENNderCare, checkups for children are FREE until they reach age 21. TENNderCare also pays for all medically necessary care to treat problems found at the check-up. This includes medical, dental, speech, hearing, vision, and behavior or mental health problems.
We will also contact you during the year as a reminder that it is time for your child to get a well-child checkup. If your child hasn’t had a check-up lately, call your PCP today for an appointment.
