What is VSHP?
Volunteer State Health Plan, Inc., VSHP, is an independent licensee of the BlueCross BlueShield Association and a licensed HMO affiliate of its parent company BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee. Founded in 1993, the Chattanooga-based company focuses on managing care and providing quality health care products, services, and information for government programs. We have a mission to serve the people of Tennessee, both in our products and services and in our numerous outreach activities.
VSHP was the TennCare program’s first managed care organization. We have learned from, and have built on, our years of TennCare experience -- constantly improving and creating procedures and programs for a better today and a brighter future.
VSHP has designed specialized technological systems and created custom disease management programs. VSHP has built a model customer-focused service center – all specifically for BlueCare, its TennCare plan, and for the administration of TennCareSelect.
A primary goal for VSHP is helping its customers become healthier. Working together with our members, we are able to help them cultivate a mindset that enables them to understand how to take ownership of their own health and best utilize their benefits.
At VSHP, customer service is more than just a name on a department door. Customer service is more than answering questions quickly and correctly. Customer service is the very heart of VSHP, talking personally, individually, to our members, making sure each member receives the particular services needed. We work as a liaison between members and providers, helping customers access their benefits.
