Welcome to VSHP

Thank you for visiting our site.  We hope it will be interesting, helpful and educational and that it will inspire you to take personal action for a healthier lifestyle.

Volunteer State Health Plan (VSHP) not only offers access to quality health care for our members, but also serves the communities where our members live.  We are engaged in communities across the state of Tennessee. Our primary goals are to:

  • Improve Tennesseans’ health and well-being through multiple individual and community outreach events and programs,
  • Educate families and communities with vital health information that improves lives through disease management programs and projects financed through our Trust and Foundation, and
  • Address Tennessee’s specific health challenges, both current and in anticipation of the future.

We hope you will read about some of our projects:

  • Better Birth Outcomes
  • The Blues Project
  • Born to Move
  • Fit Schools
  • Targeting Childhood Obesity
  • The Tennessee Graduate Nursing Loan Forgiveness Program
  • The Tennessee Center for Patient Safety
  • WalkingWorks for Schools

and other programs that are working to make our state a better, healthier place to live and raise our children.

VSHP focuses on our members’ well-being, and aims its resources at the whole person, with the above programs, social workers and excellent customer service. Our members’ health is very important to us, so we offer programs of member health care education and the means to help members reach their wellness goals.  We offer expert help with both disease management and disease prevention.  We attempt to identify and eliminate gaps in health care.

We embrace the latest technology to enable us to deliver the most effective, efficient health care.  Since 1994,VSHP has worked with Tennessee Medicaid and remains committed to building a healthier Tennessee.
